JINN IN OLD TESTAMENT AND OTHER FAITHS
The Old Testament, Ezekiel 1: 1–28, says, ‘And out of the midst of fire came the likeness of four living creatures. And this was their appearance: they had the likeness of a man…their appearance was like coals of fire…and there was brightness to the fire, and out of the fire went forth lightning. And the living creatures ran and returned as the appearance of a flash of lightning…’ This confirms jinn were mentioned even in the Old Testament. There are similar gods in Africa, and in certain South American and Far Eastern cultures as well. Hindus scriptures have many classes of demons and gods differing in power and influence. They also have a God of Fire, who they call ‘Agni Devta’, agni meaning fire in Sanskrit. They believe in reincarnation, and a moving up to a higher level or lower level. Souls can enter any living creature. Those who are good are rewarded to a higher state till they reach the level of the creator and are merged into it. This is also the equivalent of heaven. On the other hand, those who are bad or evil are punished to a lower level, including becoming animals like dogs and snakes, and possibly a jinn.
